Nativity Prep already works with Feeding San Diego to provide pantry staples to families. As part of the STEM Center and Kitchen Renovation Project, Nativity Prep will expand our partnership with Feeding San Diego to become a Food Rescue partner. Feeding San Diego, rescues surplus, edible food before it goes to waste for distribution within the community. To support the Food Pantry Program, Feeding San Diego awarded us an $89,000 grant to purchase a walk-in refrigerator and freezer, a requirement of the program. The addition of the walk-in unit will allow Nativity families to receive fresh food and produce weekly. “We are so grateful to Feeding San Diego for supporting us to become a Food Rescue partner. This is a win-win, allowing us to distribute non-expired, edible, and healthy food to our families during a time of growing inflation,” says Jessica Hooper.
Additionally, the refrigerator ensures the kitchen can function as a full catering kitchen allowing Nativity to provide healthy, scratch-made food for students, who are on-campus from 8:00 am-5:00 pm and are provided breakfast, lunch, and a snack each day. “Hungry students are distracted students,” says Jodi Drake. “A full belly plays a critical role in academic success.”
Thank you, Feeding San Diego!
