Magi Golf Program Re-Launches

The game of golf mirrors the game of life. Good luck comes from hard work. Don’t ruminate on failures. Always be honest. Visualization is important. Middle school is an ideal time to have these life lessons reinforced.

We’re thrilled to announce that the Nativity Prep middle school golf program will return for the 2022/23 academic year after a two-year pause due to the pandemic. Once again, Nativity Prep will partner with Pro Kids/First Tee of San Diego, whose program specializes in teaching youth the game of golf and the aligned life values. Once a week, Nativity Prep’s Director of Development, Brian Hickey, will drive ten middle school students three miles west of our campus, to Pro Kid’s state-of-the-art golf facility. Similar to other team sports at Nativity Prep, this golf class will be an elective sport, open to all middle school grade levels. Assuming the class is popular, students will rotate in and out of the class each trimester. In addition to the weekly golf classes, we hope to launch Nativity Prep’s first competitive golf team. A member of the team must shoot a specific score for nine holes and show a commitment to the schedule. Members of the team will have the opportunity to play in local junior tournaments.

Thanks to the efforts of longtime Nativity Prep volunteer Joe Bonin (mentor, football coach, new campus facility manager, and donor), our new middle school campus has a brand new five hundred square foot artificial putting green, and an adjacent “open space” where we hope to install a golf hitting cage/net. Brian Hickey will offer onsite clinics for the golf team and other middle school students. Our new putting green is also a great location for our mentors to interact with their mentees.

The annual cost to run this program is $9,000. If you’re interested in supporting the re-launch of Nativity Prep’s Golf Program, you can make an investment here.
