Kimberly Solis NPA ’15, OLP ’19, University of San Diego ’23
Kimberly Solis is currently in her junior year, studying International Relations at the University of San Diego (USD). This Spring she is studying abroad at the University of Oxford in the St. Clare undergraduate program. Since she started the program, she has also visited Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Austria. Kimberly has loved learning about different cultures in ways that could not be conveyed through a traditional classroom. She is sharing a living space and studying with people from different countries, including Italy, Germany, Laos, Australia, and the Netherlands. She shared, “The most challenging part about my experience has been budgeting and learning to be uncomfortable, however, I have also had to learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Not knowing the language or the customs of the country that you visit is intimidating and awkward at first but it is important to put yourself in that situation in order to grow”. She misses her family, friends, San Diego weather and good Mexican food!
When asked, she shared, “The best advice I could give students is to prepare financially and academically for the opportunity and save at least 3-4 course classes to take during the experience, but most importantly, do it because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity”! Kimberly plans to attend law school after graduating from USD in 2023.
