The YMCA’s commitment to “improving the quality of human life… through the development of mind, body, and spirit” parallels our own commitment to educating the whole student. Since 2005, through the generosity of their scholarship program, the YMCA has made it possible for our students to participate each year in weeklong resident camps as an enrichment component to our five-week summer semester.
For each of past five years, the Y has increased the number of scholarships for our students – last summer, all 40 of our rising seventh- and eighth-grade students took part in the five-day experience at Camp Marston. In previous years, our students have been able to attend each of the other two Y resident camps as well – Camp Surf in Imperial Beach, and Camp Raintree in Julian.
The YMCA camp experience provides a first-time opportunity for our students to participate in traditional summer-camp activities–arts and crafts, canoeing, archery, character education, and hands-on science–all within a highly supportive community of adult counselors and in diverse peer groups.
