COVID-19 Community Update Letter

Friday, April 3, 2020

Dear Nativity Prep Community,

We have been working hard and learning a tremendous amount, both individually and collectively, as we transition to a remote learning and support structure. We are blessed to have a strong and loving community as we engage this challenging situation. Our teachers and staff have been flexible and passionate in their desire to learn how best to support our students and families. Our students are doing amazing work as well. They are showing up regularly and trying their best to learn and grow in a very different environment. Our Board of Trustees and Leadership Team have taken steps to guide us through this time so we can emerge as a healthy and happy community.

Next week, we will be continuing our remote learning and support as we prepare for Easter and the much needed Easter Break. After Easter Break, we will be starting our full implementation of our remote learning and support. We are making plans in response to the statements made by the California State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the San Diego County Office of Education. The State Superintendent stated, “Due to the current safety concerns and needs for ongoing social distancing it currently appears that our students will not be able to return to school campuses before the end of the school year.” The San Diego County Office of Education has put out a statement, “This comment reflects Superintendent Thurmond’s personal judgement about the timing of re-opening campuses, not a mandate. The decision to re-open schools remains a local one made in conjunction with public health.”

Given these statements, we are preparing to continue our remote learning and support through the end of the academic year. We are also preparing the campus to return to normal operations immediately following a notice from the Diocese and public health officials that it is safe to do so.

As we make these plans, we are taking into special consideration the many important events that will happen between Easter Break and the end of our academic year. We can assure everyone in the community that we will be as creative as possible to ensure that we are able to celebrate together the amazing accomplishments of our students and graduates. As we learn more about the situation and finalize plans for different events, we will inform the community.

We want to continue to be a resource to everyone in the Nativity Prep Community. Please connect with us if you have needs, a desire to help, or are simply looking for a connection. We all continue to practice social distancing and other safety measures while also praying for strength, health, and wisdom.
