A Heart for Others

A Heart for Others
Moises, a graduate of Nativity Prep Academy’s Class of 2014 and a rising senior within Cathedral Catholic High School’s Class of 2018, is selflessly serving those in need, an integral value he learned during his middle school years at Nativity Prep.
“We believe that service to the community underscores an essential component of a Jesuit/Catholic education,” says Brendan Sullivan, President of Nativity Prep Academy. This past year, Moises’ dedication and caring spirit earned him the Caritas Community Service Award.
“Nativity Prep Academy and Cathedral continue to support my development as a student and as a person for others,” says Moises. “The Caritas Award means a lot to me. It represents my love for service and helping those in need, though I have never been motivated by a desire for recognition…it’s simply because I have a genuine love of others in need.”
Presented annually through a process of nomination and application, Cathedral Catholic’s Caritas Community Service Award highlights the significant contributions to others in need, within the CCHS school community and various at-risk neighborhoods in San Diego.
The term “caritas” denotes a love of humankind and genuine charity toward others.
Moises, Nativity Prep ’14, earned 350 service hours in 12 months

Moises accredits his diligent work at the Jacob Healthcare Center as a major component in achieving this award. He completed over 350 hours of community service in a 12-month period, surpassing the required 100 hours. At the Jacob Healthcare Center, he worked within the activities department, coordinating events for the facility’s elderly and sick patients.

Moises considers himself “very fortunate” to be a recipient of the Caritas Community Service Award. As an active member within Cathedral Catholic’s network of clubs, including A Warm Hug Foundation and Hispanic Cultural Awareness Club, he manages to continue supporting Nativity Prep Academy as a role model for our current middle school class and also as a photographer.

“If it were not for the time and support that I received at Nativity Prep,” Moises said “I would not have been able to attend Cathedral or have had the opportunities that I do now to attend college.”
